The Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes is seeking an experienced and committed Emergency Services Officer to support our emergency management functions and protect our unique environment and community.

Salary: Level 6.1 in accordance with the Local Government Officers’ (WA) Award 2021 and the Shire of Bridgetown-Greenbushes (Administration Staff) Collective Agreement 2023.

About the Role

Reporting to the Community Emergency Services Manager (CESM), this position plays a key role in ensuring community safety through planned mitigation, emergency preparedness, hazard reduction, equipment oversight, and public education.

Your responsibilities will include:

·         Assisting in emergency planning, prevention, response and recovery efforts.

·         Conducting fire hazard reduction works and biodiversity protection measures.

·         Supporting bushfire brigades and engaging with landowners on fuel management strategies.

·         Coordinating equipment and fleet maintenance.

·         Supporting emergency training, data management and operational response.

You’ll also serve as a Fire Control Officer (FCO) and will be called upon to attend emergency incidents and provide cover for the CESM as needed.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone with:

·         Proven experience in fire mitigation, emergency services, and bushfire brigade support.

·         Strong communication, coordination, and public engagement skills.

·         Proficiency with emergency equipment and systems.

·         Sound knowledge of WHS and environmentally sensitive mitigation practices.

Essential:

·         Basic Firefighting skills

·         Current C and HR class driver’s licences

·         Chainsaw Certificate and 4WD experience

·         First Aid (CPR) certification

Desirable:

·         Level 1 Incident Controller and AIIMS 2017

·         Sector Commander and Advanced Bush Firefighting

·         Traffic Management and chemical handling qualifications

·         Workplace Trainer and Assessor (or willingness to obtain)
