About the Role
Reporting to the Warehouse & Supply Chain Manager, the Operational Purchasing Coordinator plays a key role in overseeing the operational activities of the Talison Purchasing Department. In this position, you will be responsible for planning, organising, and managing all goods procurement activities to ensure commercially sound, cost competitive purchasing outcomes while maintaining strong vendor service levels and product quality.
You will provide a high level of support to internal departments throughout the entire procurement process, including bidding, negotiation, purchase agreements, order preparation, follow‑up, expediting, and administrative management. This role requires a consistent, ethical, and risk‑managed approach, ensuring all procurement activities are delivered efficiently and effectively at every stage.
Responsibilities include:
coordinating the procurement of goods and materials within low to medium spend categories, ensuring timely, cost‑effective and compliant purchasing;
supporting user departments through the full procurement cycle, including RFx preparation, sourcing, purchase order execution and supplier performance management;
developing and maintaining purchasing policies, procedures and systems, and ensuring adherence across the business and supplier network;
establishing competitive supply agreements that deliver strong cost, quality, availability and product support outcomes;
creating procurement plans and strategies aligned to operational requirements and providing regular progress updates;
managing supplier administration, including pricing issues, warranties, returns, repairs, disputes, invoicing and payment matters;
maintaining standard purchasing and expediting processes and providing training to staff as required;
identifying and implementing improvements in safety, service, quality, compliance and cost efficiency;
supporting the procurement of capital goods and equipment by identifying and developing suitable suppliers;
contributing to continuous improvement of purchasing practices, documentation and category management; and
delivering training and communication on purchasing policies and procedures to users and contractors.
About the Candidate:
tertiary qualification in Business, Supply Chain or a related field, or equivalent experience;
5+ years’ experience in purchasing or procurement roles;
mining or heavy industry experience (highly regarded);
strong computer skills, including Excel, Word and PowerPoint;
experience with SAP or similar enterprise procurement systems;
excellent written and verbal communication skills;
strong analytical skills and confident negotiation capability; and
skilled in developing positive, collaborative relationships with stakeholders and suppliers.
